Hello everyone, I’m Anuja Bhattarai, a BCSIT student at Shubhashree College of Management (SCM). Today, I’m excited to share my experience of creating my personal website. This journey has been a remarkable blend of learning, exploration, and growth, and I hope it inspires you to start your own digital project!
Getting Started
The idea of having a personal website had always intrigued me, and I finally decided to turn this idea into reality. For hosting, I chose Blogger, a beginner-friendly platform that allows content management without requiring extensive coding knowledge. This made it the perfect choice for someone starting their journey in web development.
To establish a professional online presence, I needed a domain name. I registered my domain, anujabhattarai.com.np, for free through register.com.np, which is renowned as Nepal’s first internet provider. Having a unique domain not only added credibility to my site but also made it easier to remember.
Enhancing Performance and Security
Creating a website isn’t just about having a great design; performance and security are equally important. To achieve this, I used Cloudflare, a platform that excels in DNS management and website security. With Cloudflare, I was able to:
- Improve my website’s loading speed.
- Protect it against potential cyber threats.
These enhancements significantly boosted the overall performance and user experience of my website.
Optimizing for Search Engines
Visibility is crucial for any website. To ensure my site could reach its intended audience, I used Google Search Console for search engine optimization (SEO). This tool helped me understand key insights such as:
- How my site was performing in search results.
- What adjustments were needed to improve visibility.
With this data, I could implement strategies to optimize my content and enhance my website’s ranking.
Customization and Learning
While I started with a pre-designed template, I didn’t stop there. I decided to dive deeper into the coding aspect and customize my site extensively. This included:
- Modifying layouts to suit my preferences.
- Adjusting styles for better visual appeal.
- Optimizing functionality to improve user experience.
Through this hands-on approach, I gained invaluable knowledge about web design and development. It deepened my understanding of how websites work, making me more confident in my technical abilities.
Tools and Platforms Used
Here’s a summary of the tools and platforms that made this project possible:
- Domain Registration: register.com.np
- DNS and Security: cloudflare.com
- Hosting: blogger.com
- SEO: search.google.com
Reflections and Future Plans
This project has been more than just a technical endeavor; it has been a journey of self-discovery and skill enhancement. I’ve developed a strong foundation in web development and gained a deeper appreciation for the intricacies of creating a website.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to explore more advanced web development techniques and work on projects that challenge me further. The possibilities in this field are endless, and I’m eager to continue learning and growing.
Creating a personal website is an empowering experience, and I encourage everyone to try it. Whether you’re a student, professional, or entrepreneur, a website can serve as a powerful platform to showcase your skills and ideas.
