Mr. Deepayan Basu, Director for UN RCPD regional centre for peace ad Disarmament called for greater cooperation of the Government of Nepal with the UN in implementing the UN program of actin on small arms and light weapon(SALW).
Mrs Rina Uprety MP the chief Guest of the day stressed the need to arrest the war like situation which Nepal experienced before by regulating Gun ownership in Nepal and prevent illegal proliferation of Guns. She stressed the importance of strengthening the UN as world Government to usher in peace in the region as late King Birendra dreamt.
Mrs Manita Oli Basnet, Principal of the College welcomed the gathering and informed that the event is organized to build the capacity of the delegates attending the BMS9, Bi-annual meeting of states to review the implementation of the UN POA on SALW starting on June 01, at the UNHQ which some of the participants would be attending. The hybrid zoom call was attended by people across Asia.
The meeting called for ban on export to non-state actors and regulate excessive production of weapons in the world. Earlier the weapons were produced to sell. But now the wars are manufactured to sell weapons.
