The Hotel Management department of Shubhashree College of Management organized a Bartending competition entitled “Young Mixologist Competition” within the college premises (Training restaurant) for the current BHM 4th semester students. The objective of the competition was to judge and evaluate students theoretical and practical knowledge and skills associated in production and deliverance of the fantastic mixed drinks with ideas. The competition was a clash of mixologists from 4th semester 17th May 2024.
Thirteen(13) students actively participated in event from that specific semester. During the event, member of 2 and 3 each consisting groups were to go against each other for the specific cocktail. For the first round all 6 Groups were asked to prepare a specific cocktail as “Whisky Sour” and later they were asked to describe the recipe and method of preparation.
Second round took place after the elimination of 2 groups from the semester where they were set to prepare a Vodka based cocktail. Remaining 4 groups were given selected soft drinks, garnishes and special syrup along with specific amount of vodka. On this particular round students came up with fantastic mixed drinks such as beach sunrise, pink princess etc.
Final round started right away after the elimination of 2 more groups. This particular round was where a signature cocktail and unique preparation was proposed and so was also the declaration factor. Group D consisting of Ananta Ghimire and Roshan Kumar Paswan from 4th semester group stood excellent above the other with their unique combination and plain simple explanation and right use of ingredients. Their ginger flavored cocktail entitled “Ginger Whisk” was above was exceptional and was so declared winner for this terms Mixologist competition.
Three hours of interactive and competitive session had key judges Mr. Bed Panta from Elite Bartenders Academy, Mr. Shreejan K.C (Food and Beverage instructor) and BHM Coordinator Mr. Subodh Subedi. Final thoughts and winners declaration followed by certificate distribution was carried out by Mr. Bed Panta himself on behalf Elite Bartenders Academy. The whole competition and winners were evaluated on the basic of the color composition, build/station work, concept usage and finally quality & taste factor.
